Writing Wednesdays: Dante and Tasha Hope + Camp Nano Update

About Them As Individual's

Tasha Hope Ivring

A song that represents them

My Heart Will Go On

Character's Backstory

Tasha has a rather tragic early childhood (well, not as tragic as some of my other character's backstories but still tragic). Since this is a Cinderella re-telling (haha, how is that going to work???) I made sure to get rid of the mother (haha why???). Okay, so, Tasha Hope's (she goes by Tasha tho) mom (also named Tasha) met Tasha's dad Mark. So Tasha (the mother) was a really famous dancer and Mark was the owner of a large company that made dance-wear (pointe shoes, leotards, tights, costumes, you get the picture). Anywho, Mark is several years older (twenty to be precise) than Tasha and they don't really marry for love?? (Tasha marries him because she was infatuated with his wealth, Mark marries her because he was infatuated with her). Anywho, they are on the brink of divorce when they discover Tasha is pregnant. [Enter Tasha Hope]. Short-story-even-shorter, Tasha (the mother) runs away with a fellow dancer and files for divorce. So it's just Mark and Tasha (the daughter) (WHY DID I GIVE TWO CHARACTERS THE SAME NAME????) until Mark marries Katherine Chandler who has two daughters, Hailey and Aubrey. Mark dies and our story begins.

Biggest Dream

Her biggest dream is to find her mother again.

Worst Fear

Finding her mother again.

Doubts

She doubts that her mother loves her

That she is a good enough dancer

That she is smart enough

That she is kind enough

That she is too selfish

Quirks

To calm herself down before performing, she has to recite the alphabet backward

She can recite the periodic table by memory

She hates gummy bears

She is a sucker for romance books

Talents

She's an amazing dancer

Her best subject is biology

She can make almost anyone smile

A song that represents them

Me, Who Am I?

Character's Backstory

Okay (*coughs*) so, Dante's life hasn't been all that easy also. I still haven't fleshed out all his details but this is basically the story. He has a younger sister (who's basically the fairy-godmother) (I have a thing for snarky little sisters) named Maybel. Anywho, his parents fight a lot. His mom is a huge fashion designer (this is a bery important detail) and his dad.....um....does something. But yeah. His parents stay together but it's obvious that it's for show. Oh, and he also dances but his dad thinks it's for football (which is what Dante's dad wants him to do) but Dante loves to dance.

Biggest Dream

To dance (THERE ARE MANLY DANCERS K???)

Worst Fear

Disappointing his parents

Failing

Doubts

If he's good enough

If his parents really love him for him

If he can protect his sister

If he really knows himself

Quirks

He secretly loves Jane Austen

He doesn't like ice cream

Talents

Football

Dance

Teasing his sister (it's a legitimate talent)

About Them As a Couple

A song that represents them

Bless the Broken Road

How they met

They met because Tasha tutors Maybel in biology and coaches her in dance. They also go to the same school and after Tasha's dad dies, she takes more dance classes (Dante is in several of those new classes)

Similarities

They both dance and care maybe a little too much for other people

Differences

So Tasha is really quiet and not that popular while Dante is pretty outgoing and popular

Did they start off on the wrong foot

Nope

Um

Actually

Can I answer that question later?

Did they start out as friends

Yes

Who realized that they were in love/like first

Uuuuuuuum

Tasha?

I think?

How do they help each other

Dante makes Tasha more outgoing and Tasha anchors Dante down. He pushes her to new limits and she is a rock that he can reach out for stability.

JOANNA

IS

THE

BEST

Character of the Week: CHRISTOPHER HARRIS

19 years old. His birthday is November 9th.  His brother is Jack Harris. He’s a senior. He lives with his father. Every now and then, he stays with his mother. He is the goalie for the Mockingbirds varsity soccer team. He is the founder of the band The Outcasts and is the lead singer/guitarist for it.

Snippet:

“Hurry up, J! We’re going to be late!” Gerald yelled from downstairs.
“Almost!” Joanna paused to give her eyeliner the finishing touch, “Done!”
Uncapping her mascara, she ran the brush over her top eyelashes. And then did the same for the bottom ones. Studying her reflection in the mirror, Joanna deemed herself ready to go.
“Let’s go,” she sang out as she sat in the passenger seat of her brother’s car. Gerald rolled his eyes and started the engine.
“What do you think about Emilie?” Joanna asked as they drove down the street.
“She’s pretty-”
“Is that all you guys think about?”
“No!” Gerald gave her a sharp look, “You didn’t let me finish! She’s pretty and she looks really talented. She’s a great addition to the team.”
“Well, with Stanley and Janice Stanton as her parents, of course she’s going to be an amazing addition!” she gasped, “Do you think she’ll tell us of some of her parent’s missions?!”
“You can ask her.”
Joanna squealed. “I will! I don’t have her in any of my classes but I’ll ask her at lunch or at band practice.”
“She’s part of The Outcasts?”
“Yeah. Today is our first practice with her.”
As they pulled into the school parking lot, Joanna spotted Emilie’s car already there. A few cars down, Jack leaned against his car and laughed alongside her.
“Is it me,” Gerald said slyly, shutting the car door, “Or is Jack totally into her?”
Joanna studied the pair. “Oh yeah,” she confirmed, “He’s into her.”
“Finally!
“What?” she whipped her head to look at her brother.
“Jack hasn’t liked a girl in forever. I can finally tease him.”
“You are such a,” Joanna searched for the right adjective to describe her brother.
“A what?” Gerald prompted.
“A boy!”
“No way!” he feigned mock horror, “I would have never guessed!”
“But I have bad news.”
“What?! We ran out of ice cream!”
Joanna punched him playfully. “I think Christopher likes her too.”
Gerald cackled evilly. Giving him a concerned look, she said, “What is it? Something bad is going on if you use your Darth Sidious laugh.”
“This is going to be so much fun to watch.”
The sibling duo had reached Jack and Emilie at that point, so Joanna wasn’t able to ask him what he meant.
Hey guys!” Gerald said, giving Jack a fist-bump, “What’s up?”
“Eh,” Jack shrugged, Joanna hugged Emilie, “Nothing much. Em and I were just talking about how hilarious Mr. Ortega is.”
“Oh my gosh,” Joanna laughed, “I have him in my third period, he cracks the best jokes!”
“Did he tell you guys the toe one?” Emilie asked.
“No! Tell!”
“Okay,” Emilie laughed and cleared her throat, “So it went like this: What did one cell say to his sister cell when she stepped on his toe? Ouch, Mitosis!”
There was a brief pause before everyone burst out into laughter.
“Oh, gosh,” Gerald wiped away a tear in the corner of his eye, “That’s one of the jokes that’s so bad it’s good.”
“Mr. Ortega is the best,” Joanna laughed. Then something Jack had said a few minutes ago snagged her attention.
“Wait,” she said, “Jack, what did you call Emilie?”
“Um,” he looked extremely confused, “I called her Em. Why?”
“You nicknamed her?”
“Yes.”
She pressed her hands to her face and gave a soundless scream. Both Jack and Emilie turned red.
“J,” Gerald said in mock-sternness, “leave them alone.”
“But it’s begging me to tease them!”
“I’m going to class,” Emilie began to inch away once the first bell rang. Joanna hooked her arm around Emilie's.
“We’re going to have a girl-chat,” Joanna announced. Emilie shot the boys a look that clearly said, ‘I’m being kidnapped. HELP!!!’ as Joanna dragged her away.
“I am allowed to be slightly panicked?” she asked.
“Yes,” Joanna replied immediately.
“So what did you want to ‘girl-chat’ about?”
“Do you like Jack?”
“Um, of course I do.”
Joanna gave her a hard stare and Emilie spluttered.
“Oh!” she exclaimed, “You mean like him, like him?”
“Duh! Do you?”
“No!”
“Do you like Christopher?”
The tops of Emily's ears went red.
“Maybe,” was all she said. Joanna squealed.
“I am so happy! Christopher needs a good girlfriend. His last one was awful.
“Hold your horses!” Emilie stopped walking and held her hands up in protest, “No one said anything about dating he-who-shall-not-be-named. I just said that I might, - hear that? MIGHT - like him.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Joanna waved her hand, “It always starts like that. You’ll see.”

EDIT: Don't forget to leave a question on my Would I Rather.... post if you haven't yet!! I love all the questions so far!

Notes: I AM LOVING THIS SO MUCH.

Character of the Week: JACK HARRIS

17 ½  years old. His birthday is August 17th. His brother is Christopher Harris. He’s a junior. Their parents are divorced. Mrs. Harris (who also works for the I.N.) has Jack while his father has Christopher. Is the quarterback for the Mockingbirds varsity football team.

Snippet:

“Hey, Mom?” Jack came down the stairs two at a time.
“Yes?” Mrs. Harris looked up from where she had been furiously typing on her laptop.
“Emilie is coming over. For the briefing.”
It then occurred to Jack that he hadn’t told his mom about Emilie.
“M.G. called this morning,” he explained, “He told me that we had a new member, Emilie Stanton. I met her today and she’s coming over for the briefing.”
“I know already, Jack,” his mom chuckled.
“You do?”
“I do work with the I.N., of course I know.”
Jack blushed and then shrugged. Then the doorbell rang and he jumped.
“That must be her,” he said, as he sprinted towards the door.
When he opened it, the person standing there shocked him so much that he slammed the door.
“Jack!” Mrs. Harris poked her head around the corner, concern etched on her face, “Please don’t tell me that you slammed the door in Emilie’s face.”
“It was - It was,” Jack groaned, leaned his head on the door, then opened it, revealing Christopher’s face, an eyebrow raised quizzically.
“What are you doing here?” Jack couldn’t help but cringe when he heard how pathetic his own voice sounded, even to him.
“Um, it’s the second day of school?” Christopher widened his eyes, as if Jack should know where this was going.
“And?”
“And I always spend the night here on the second day of school.”
Unlike Jack, who never wanted to see his father, Christopher still occasionally spent the night with his mother and brother.
“Right,” Jack plastered a too-wide smile on his face, “Of course. I forgot.”
“Obviously,” Christopher pushed past him and went up to where his room was.
As soon as his brother got out of sight, Jack whipped out his phone and texted Emilie, praying with all his might that she was nowhere near his house.

Jack Harris: Hey, where are you?

Emilie Stanton: I’m just pulled up to your driveway

Jack looked out the window and, sure enough, there was a blue Subaru parked in the driveway, a girl with familiar hair sitting in the driver's seat.

Jack Harris: Don’t come in yet

Emilie Stanton: Why not?

Jack Harris: So my brother is here, and he doesn’t know about the I.T.

Emilie Stanton: You have a brother?

Jack Harris: Christopher Harris. Blonde hair. I saw you two talking yesterday.

From his position in the window, Jack could see Emilie's face shoot up and lock eyes with him.

Emilie Stanton: Well, I’m coming down. We can just tell your brother that I’m here to pick up some books or to study or something.

And, before Jack could text back, she opened the car door and walked up the pathway. She smiled at him through the window and pointed at the door, mouthing, “Are you going to open the door?”
Facepalming, Jack opened it.
“Sorry,” he gave a sheepish grin, “I’m still in shock at having Chris turn up on my doorstep.”
Emilie’s eyebrows furrowed in confusion, but all she said was, “you can explain later. But we have to do, um, college planning.”
Jack smiled at their inside joke. Then there was a creak from the stairs and he was annoyed all over again.
“Emilie?” Christopher was clearly shocked. “What are you doing here?”
Although he had said “here”, Jack knew that he really meant, “Why are you here with my brother?”
“We’re doing math homework together,” Jack said, “this Algebra 2 is killer.”
“Yep,” Emilie picked up on his lead, “all those formulas.”
“I did Algebra 2 last year, do you guys need me to help you?” Christopher’s voice was eager.
“No!” Jack and Emilie said at the same time.
“You probably have a lot of your own homework,” Emilie smoothed over the burn Christopher must have been feeling. “Being a senior and all. A lot more work than a junior has.”
“Anyways,” Jack began pulling Emilie away from the door, “we really have to get started on that homework. See ya!”
Emilie gave Christopher (who still looked extremely confused) a small wave as she followed Jack up the stairs.
“That,” Jack said as he shut the door to his room, “was a close call.”
“It was. So, what exactly is ‘the briefing’?” Emilie sat on the floor, leaning against the door.
“Oh,” he pulled a box out from under his bed and took a brochure and small book out of it.
Handing it to Emilie, he said, “The briefing is basically an explanation of the I.T., but what I just handed you should cover it.”
“And you couldn’t just give these to me at school?”
“Well, that’s not all a briefing is. The briefing is also about to getting to know the rest of the members in your team. Initiation will be coming up, but I have to explain how our team works.”
Emilie nodded, setting the things Jack had just handed her next to her. Her mismatching eyes giving him an intense look. “That makes sense. Why else would you have me over unless you have to explain something important to me.”
“Yeah. Plus, it isn’t safe to hand out things about the I.T. in public.”
“Not safe?”
“The I.T. is a secret. Only the members and their parents know about it.”
Emilie nodded, indicating that she understood.
“So, let’s begin with naming the other members,” Jack said, “Gerald Markings and his sister Joanna were the next two people to join. Gerald is a senior and Joanna is a junior, you’ll get a kick out of her. Next comes Chelsea Kent, she’s pretty cool. Then Mark Leah, Leah Hartfield, and Olaf Jennings.”
“That’s it?”
“Yes,” Jack ran a hand through his hair, “and we’re the only chapter. Not that many members.”
“Have you guys been on any missions.”
“No.”
“That stinks,” she wrinkled her nose. Then her phone pinged and she looked down.
“Ah,” Emilie shoved the phone back in her pocket and collected the brochure and book, “I gotta run. My aunt needs me.”
“Is that where you’re staying?” Jack asked, “With your aunt?”
“Yeah,” she smiled.
“Cool. How’re you liking Mississippi so far?”
“It’s a lot hotter than Delaware.”
They laughed. By this time, they had reached the door, and Christopher had poked his head around the corner, narrowing his eyes.
“Well,” Emilie opened the door, “I’ll see you tomorrow. See you tomorrow, Christopher!” she gave him a small wave and he brightened and he waved back.
“Well that wasn’t a lot of studying,” Christopher said suspiciously.
“Eh,” Jack shrugged, “turns out that she had the subject down pretty well.”
“Hm,” Christopher didn’t take his eyes off his brother as Jack went back up the stairs.

~January Wrap-Up~

It's the end of January??

WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAT?????

But yeah, I thought it would be fun to do wrap up posts at the end of each month so, let's dive in.

Not literally...

LIFE

SCHOOL-WISE

Life has been crazy this month. We got back from Mexico on the 9th and it was a dive in straight back to school after that. Ugh, turning stuff in to get my 1st-semester grade, my mom giving me the, "YOU HAVE A 4.0 GPA ALREADY, DON'T MESS IT UP," look all the time, yeeep fun times.

But, on the bright side, the 1st-semester grades I have gotten (History and Biology) have been A's, so I just need to get on Religion, Latin, and Geometry.

VIOLIN-WISE

Violin has also been pretty good! Today is our first orchestra rehearsal of the semester and I'm principal second violin!! I love orchestra soooo much!

I'm also preparing for a competition so a lot of memorizing going on.

AT LEAST IT ISN'T BACH

BACH IS THE WORST TO MEMORIZE

DANCE-WISE

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII GOT ON POINTEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

I'm going this Saturday to get my pointe shoes fitted so I'm psyched about that! We also found out what recital is going to be! And, the funny thing is, that it's the same one that we did the first year I did with this teacher! Since I'm on pointe, I'll have a pointe dance which I'm soooo excited for! Another of our dances is a mazurka, and that is also tooons of fun!

WRITING

Okay

I had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too many stories that I was working on, so I narrowed it down to three with maybe a chapter here or there on another story

ON PAPER

The Girl Who Learned to Love

So I randomly choose them and wasn't as excited that I got this one. It was a new idea an one that I wasn't so invested in, but, that has changed. I LOVE THIS STORY SOOO MUCH. Maybe I'll do a post on it, but yeah, I've been enjoying this more and more as I find out more about the characters.

ON THE COMPUTER

The Moon

Again, wasn't too excited to have picked this one, but I think I'll enjoy it as I work more on it. I had already started this one, but instead of picking it up where I had left off, I'm just plain ol' redoing it. The plot is still the same with a tweak here or there, but I'm still plotting it. But, I have gotten more excited as I've been plotting it more

EDITING

A Tale of Two Friends: Ariella's Perspective

Aaah, the first book I ever finished

THE BEGINNING IS HORRIBLE

It's going to need some serious editing, but I forgot how much I loved those characters.

READING

I'm doing the Goodreads Reading Challange, and my goal is to read 50 books I have never read before. That means re-reads don't count. The books I read were (in order of reading them).....

But yeah, apparently I'm ahead of schedule having read 7 books this month. AND THEY WERE ALL AWESOME

As to the "Update" part of my title, I'm going to be changing how my blog looks (as much as I love how it looks now) soon. So if you come and it looks like I went totally color-blind. You know what's up :)
